넥슨은 이 게임을 이용해 미디어 믹스를 시도했으며, 이는 대성공을 거뒀다. 메이플스토리 가이드북, 백과사전, 학습만화, 오프라인 RPG 등의 출판물을 모두 합치면 1200만 부 정도의 양을 출하했고, 그중 오프라인 RPG는 고가에도 불구하고 1800만 부가 넘게 팔리는 기염을 토했다. 또한 메이플스토리 DS는 당시 기준 국산 게임 최단기간 10만 장 판매 돌파라는 기록을 세웠다. 또한, 메이플스토리는 매번 변화하는 유저들의 눈높이와 새로운 환경에 대처하기 위해 셀 수 없을 만큼 다양한 변화를 시도했으며, 이는 메이플스토리가 오랜 세월에도 불구하고 클래식 게임이 아닌 현역 RPG로서 운영되는 밑거름이 되었다. 일부 지나친 변화가 언리미티드 등의 매우 부정적인 패치를 낳는 등 부작용도 존재하지만, 이러한 과정을 통해 현재의 메이플스토리가 한자리에 머무르지 않고 끊임없이 변화를 추구할 수 있었다. 참고로 게임 내에서 '메이플'이라는 글자가 들어간 캐릭터 닉네임은 사용할 수 없다. 닉네임이 중복 된다거나 하는 것이 아니라 아예 클라이언트에서 생성 자체를 차단한다. 운영자를 사칭하는 것을 방지하기 위해 이런 조치를 취한 것으로 추정된다. 사실, 은월 출시부터 2015년 초까지 캐릭터 1개 정도는 더 추가될 수도 있었다. 그런데 문제는 그 캐릭터가 비스트테이머라는 점이었다. 물론 비스트테이머가 미우미우(메이플스토리)나 엘리니아 등지를 홈타운으로 쓴다면, 작년 2~3사분기 사이에 세부 조정을 거치고 나서 이미 들어왔을 것이다. 문제는 그녀가 홈으로 잡고 있는 지역이 던베일이라는 점이다. 그곳은 스토리와 맵 디자인은 개판이고, 몹 디자인은 복붙이며, 카루타나 앱솔랩스 세트보다 안 좋은 160제 세트 등, 무엇을 상상하든 그 이상의 문제점을 안고 있었던 곳이다. 이 때문에 비스트테이머는 파멸의 빛으로 비유되는 등, 각종 메이플 커뮤니티의 금지어로 자리잡았다. 그 후 2014년 5월에 디렉터가 고세준에서 황선영으로 교체되고, 스타포스 강화 및 스타포스 사냥터, 스타플래닛, 블랙헤븐과 기계무덤, 프렌즈스토리 챕터 6 및 프렌즈스토리 2회차 플레이, 12주년, 전설의 귀환 이말년(콜라보레이션) 한정캐 출시 등을 거치는 동안 신 캐릭터는 소식조차 들리지도 못하고 있었다.[5] 혹시 나오더라도 비테라면 던베일은 따라 나올 것이 분명하기에 각지에서는 신캐 소리만 들어도 뒷목을 잡아야 했다... 키네시스의 운용은 특이하게도 마나를 사용하지 않으며, 기본적으로 PP를 끌어모아 적재적소에 맞게 강력한 얼티메이트 스킬을 사용하는 것으로써 사냥시와 보스전시에 쓰는 스킬이 다르다. 사냥은 싸이킥 스매싱과 싸이킥 드레인으로 PP를 채워 전방 사선 넓은 방향의 범위를 지닌 얼티메이트-싸이킥 샷을 쓰는 것을 기본으로 한다. 싸이킥 샷은 시스템상 타겟 수 제한이 없으며(디멘션 인베이드에서 잘만 쓰면 싸이킥 샷 한방으로 한 웨이브가 정리되는 진풍경을 볼 수 있다!) 데빌 크라이가 15타겟인 걸 생각하면...ㄷㄷ 범위도 매우 넓기에[17] 이 싸이킥 샷을 최대한 많이 발사하여 넓은 범위에 걸친 최대한 다량의 몬스터를 타격하는 것이 키네시스 사냥의 핵심이다. 과정 중에서 싸이킥 차징, 에버싸이킥을 사용하여 ...
